Habit Forming Perfection
Derived from the renowned Japanese philosophy "Kaizen", perfection is obtained by working both, harder and smarter. Optimising operations, and habituating change in all components of an organisation's ecosystem are key to ensuring improvement across a broad spectrum.
Starting small but aiming for and getting to the stars
Toyota is a classic example of Kaizen. By showing that continuous improvement can create long-lasting, solid automobiles at affordable prices, Toyota has gone on to become the largest automobile company in the world. When Apple decided to innovate, it continued doing so to add a repertoire of products that changed how computing and its extensions can fit into a person's hands and has gone onto become one of the most valuable companies ever. It is not just about what we do as an organisation that matters. It is about how we continue doing it to better the best.
Decision Making
Everyone of us is constantly faced with choices and decisions. By using a systematic process to decide, we can keep improving on the way we make choices. By adopting such a continuous system of improvement, our ability to decide will keep improving and as we focus on a constant set of goals, such improved decision making will help us better all else in our realm.
Priorities
In the choices and decisions we are faced with everyday, it is critical for us to focus on priorities. What should we do? What should we get others to do? What can wait? What must have already happened? In determining priorities using due process, one is able to focus on using the ecosystem we are embellished with more practically and more efficiently, helping complete execution of what we have embarked on better than before and as we keep doing this, we make for a better organisation, better ecosystem and a better value proposition.
Focus
The world will always have different opinions about generalists versus specialists. Irrespective, those who succeed, focus. That sharp focus on what needs to be done, who will enable one to do it, who will need to be networked with to bring it to fore, who will invest in it, who will champion it, who will make it de rigeur, who will help take it to the stars are all subsets. Using due process again, including simple things like meditation helps bring greater focus on what matters to each of us. As responsible parts of an ecosystem - be it family or organisation, it therefore becomes important for us to participate in that ecosystem with the zeal and effort that will ensure our focus brings us closer to the dreams we pursue constantly.
